Quick update on our current status
In-character:
The USS Portland is mostly-crewed and mostly-operational, and about to leave Starbase 302. There is a JP to that effect in the JP workshop. After that, it's on to test out the prototype "Project Mongoose" - a stasis field generator similar to what was used by the Klingons in the TAS tribble episode. Some systems (such as the main phaser batteries) are going to be offline until we can make it to DS9 to make it a "not until Tuesday" type situation. Because a shakedown cruise where everything goes right is boring, there may or may not be a surprise at some point.
After that, it's off to drop the Tolic shard that Tyrlai won in a game of Tongo off on Bajor, and attend a reception in our honour. Bajor will also be the starting point for our first mission. I've got the first mission more or less planned out, as it is part of the CO academy course, but for future missions, I'd like to solicit more input from the crew and see what everyone is interested in.
Out-of-character:
We've currently got five players, and a sixth is expected to put in an application shortly. If that application is successful, we will have enough players to move out of RIO and into Operational status as soon as I finish the CO Academy. I'm doing fairly well so far, and am awaiting feedback on the third of four assignments. I'm expecting to finish in about a week and a half.
Even though we have six players, recruiting is still important -- I'd like to see the Portland grow and include more players. So, if you know anyone interested, by all means send them our way.
The site is more or less complete -- the forum could use a little beautification, but everything seems functional at the moment.
As for my count, we launched Mission Zero on April 7th, and so far we've had 12 posts - just about one per day. A few of those have been Joint Posts as well, so if we count those by author rather than by post, we're doing better than one per day. We've got a joint post being worked on in the workshop, and I'm sure there's at least one or two being worked on over the PM system. Post quality has also been great - we've already introduced some interesting story possibilities that we can pick up on later (the Tolic shard, Jason's daughter, and our friendly XO sleeping with the Admiral's daughter). Great work guys! Lets try to keep it up as we move forward!
