Name: Ero Cenza
Rank: Lieutenant Junior Grade
Position: Chief Intelligence Officer
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Date of Birth: August, 8th, 2357
Place of Birth: Umoth VII, Cardassian DMZ
Appearance:
With somewhat errant hair more akin to a laborer than a Starfleet officer, Ero strikes an unkempt figure at times. Although he tries to style his hair, it often fights back against the restraints of styling wax. As a complete contrast, Ero keeps his facial hair well trimmed at all times.
His skin is slightly paler given the years spent in space rather than on planets. Although his complexion has improved after serving in warmer climates in recent years, he still has a paler complexion than most planetside populations have. Ero certainly has a little bit of a well worn look about him. A hint at his past activities before and during his Starfleet career.
His roguish grin, and bright eyes gives off the persona of a someone who is willing to have a little fun at times. This is further underlined by his off-duty clothing, which is normally a t-shirt with a humorous logo, or quote that nobody outside of his community really gets.
Personality:
To all those that have met Ero, he comes across as a confident individual, although a little laid back in his replies at times. He’s a well tempered individual, who rarely bursts into anger without extreme provocation. His tendency to joke in the face of serious situations have lessened over the years as he has matured during his time in Starfleet. That easy going sense of humour is still there. Without it, Ero would likely crumble under the pressure asserted on him over the years.
Ero isn't always a person who trusts those with ease. He only lends his trust to those he knows thoroughly, given his somewhat difficult life before joining Starfleet. A nomadic life fighting various enemy factions gave Ero a steely resolve to succeed against the odds.
During his time with his people on what has been coined as 'The Refuge,' Ero demonstrated his resourceful nature having to make the most of the limited supplies, and the age of the ships which made up ‘The Refuge.’
Family:
Mother: Isobel Cenza
Father: Tannin Cenza
Sister: Sofia Cenza
Background:
Born on Umoth VII,located in the Cardassian Demilitarized Zone, Ero had a turbulent upbringing. Early life on Umoth VII was tough after the Cardassian War, and the signing of treaties resulting in Federation colonies being handed over to the Cardassians. Ero’s family decided to stay on the planet, despite constant clashes with the settled Cardassian population. These clashes escalated to the point of military conflict between the colonies militia, the Marquis, and the Cardassian military. Early battles were ferocious in nature, leading to Ero, and his family taking refuge in underground shelters.
Some years later, the fighting died down. Negotiations were arranged for both sides to put an end to the conflict. However, members of the human colony, in conjunction with the Marquis, disrupted negotiations, leading to renewed conflicted. Tired of fighting, Ero’s father decided to leave the planet behind, taking like minded civilians along with him. Using the colonies fleet of cargo and few remaining combat vessels, the colonists left Umoth VII in search of a new home,
The immediate months after evacuation were volatile for the fleet of aging ships. Marked as enemies of Cardassia, and cowards by the Marquis, they were hounded by attacks, attempts at sabotage, and a growing dissatisfaction with their low quality of life. During this time, Ero spent a great deal of time helping to maintain the fleet, as well as helping to fight against any threat to the fleet.
On a first planetside trip on his own, Ero came across his first real Federation colony. The comfortable life they led clearly appealed to Ero, but the council would never allow him to leave. It was a chance encounter with a Starfleet captain not that much later, which inspired Ero to leave his nomadic life and join the Academy.
At the Academy, Ero tended to excel in practical tasks. He led the class with his piloting skills and all round knowledge of starships. Having attended what is akin to home schooling growing up, Ero wasn't always top at some of the more in depth topics. His desire to succeed, along with a close group of friends, led Ero to gradually improve. However, his involvement in fighting the Cardassians marked him out as a recruit to Starfleet Intelligence.
After graduating, Ero took up a posting as an Intelligence Officer on board the USS Killjoy. Most of his time on the Killjoy were some of the uneventful in Ero’s career. The only major operation of note was the evacuation of a failing space station.
Ero decided to leave the USS Killjoy wishing to pursue a greater challenge. Instead of taking another position on board a ship, Ero volunteered for the Starfleet rebuilding efforts on Cardassia. Many who knew Ero, including his former captain, were surprised with the move. Ero had not hidden his animosity for all Cardassians. Particularly those involved in driving him from his home planet. Ero’s intentions on Cardassia were far from honest. For years he had kept track of Cardassians responsible for crimes against his people. However much he advanced in Starfleet, the events of Umoth VII were always on his mind.
Starfleet, nervous by Ero’s actions on Cardassia, pulled him from the program. Angered by Starfleet’s actions, Ero resigned, and headed back to his only other home, The Refuge. Back home, Ero was given his own ship, which was christened the Gray Angel. Flying the old space bucket, Ero carved out a living, trading, smuggling, and doing almost anything to provide for his fleet. These actions soon got Starfleet’s attention. Setting a trap for Ero and his crew on the planet Lambeth II, he was caught in the act. However, a criminal record was avoided after a deal was struck to rejoin Starfleet for a period determined by the admiralty.
Saying goodbye to his family once more, Ero set off to become the Chief Flight Control Officer on the USS Eclipse. This role was combined with that of an Intelligence Officer given the Eclipse’s current mission. His first and last mission on the ship involved bringing down a dangerous criminal organisation on the far flung planet of Mykona, a place run by the criminal class. Ero assisted, along with the crew of the Gray Angel, in ending the organisation for good.
After the mission, the USS Eclipse crew transferred over to Leto Colony, a place plagued by temporal anomalies from the nearby Typhon Expanse. For the first time he finally felt settled. After many adventures involving ancient civilizations, a Borg invasion in another time, and cryptic transmissions from the future, Ero decided to leave Leto Colony. Many of those he had served with had since settled down, or moved on elsewhere. It felt right for Ero to leave in order to tackle new challenges.
