Character Gender: Male
Rank: Lt. (jg)
Character Appearance:
Hair and Mane: Tawny
Eyes: Gold
Height: 1.9 meters (aprox. 6'2")
Weight: 78 kilos (172 lbs)
R'vahis's features are distinctly feline, and he has a thick coat of golden fur across his entire body. Likewise he has a thick mane around the back of his neck and head that gives him a lion-like appearance. He also has the characteristic tail of his race, as well as the large eyes that afford him excellent night vision. Like most caitians, his ears are pointed and atop his head in a feline manner, with a range of hearing far exceeding that of most humanoids.
Character Personality:
R'vahis is inquisitive and quite witty, enjoying verbal banter on many different levels. He is generally a good humored and positive person, though once angered, his temper is quite fierce. He is driven to prove himself beyond the confines of his Parents' accomplishments, and can be quite impulsive in any dealings with his Mother. Eventually he hopes to one day earn his own starship command.
Having grown up near Earth, he jokingly considers himself a Terran-Caitian, and has a fondness for chocolate chip cookies, tomato soup, and grilled cheese sandwiches.
Strengths:
- Standard Caitian traits - Enhanced hearing and low-light vision.
- Extremely agile and quick.
- Well trained in a form of Caitian martial arts akin to the terran-style of Aikido.
- R'vahis has a sharp mind and scored well in most of his Academy classes.
Weaknesses:
- Caitians generally have a slighter build than most humanoid races, and must physically work to maintain even the musculature equal to a standard human male.
- Caitians are built for speed and short bursts of action rather than long endurance, and thus, can tire quickly.
- As with most felines, dislikes being wet.
Character Background:
R'vahis is the only son of Starfleet personnel, his father being a ranking Engineer at the shipyards near earth, and his mother, a Diplomat and Ambassador to Cait.
He was actually born in the medical bay at the shipyards, and spent nearly half of his childhood on and around earth. However, his mother insisted that he be properly trained and nurtured in the Caitian culture, and so he also spent several years living on Ferasa, the Caitian homeworld while she acted there upon diplomatic missions.
It was quite a readjustment for the young felinoid, going from the temporal outdoor climate of Earth to the tropical climate of the cities of Cait.
Generally speaking, R'vahis preferred living near earth, and when he reached his teens, against his mother's wishes, he returned to live with his father in the shipyards.
When he was old enough, he applied for Starfleet Academy, hoping to going into the Tactical division. His mother, fearing for his safety, manipulated him, finally convincing him to work with his father in the Engineering field. Her thought was that she would assure that he would be safe and sound, posted on one of the numerous and heavily defended starbases in Starfleet.
R'vahis, of course, had other ideas...and after successfully serving first as an Engineering officer aboard the USS Benares, a Miranda class ship, for his first year Academy Cruise, and then as an Operations officer for his Senior year tour. He recently was accepted for the position of Chief Operations Officer aboard the USS Portland.
Sample Post/Character Moment:
[Starfleet Academy - Last Day, 09:12 hours, Cafeteria]
R'vahis sat quietly amidst the group of students, eating what little his nervous stomach would allow. The Caitian had only three hours before his next exam...one he hadn't studied for. He chewed slowly on whatever mystery meat the cafe cook had labored on for his digestive pleasure while listening to some fo the other cadets tell their "life stories" and tales of how they had come to be at the Academy.
The girl...at least R'vahis thought she was a girl. It was always so hard for him to tell with Edosians, what with them having three arms and legs. In any event, she was just finishing up her own personal story with great vigor. "...And that is when I passed the stratus baton of life to my sibling, and decided to undertake the necessary tests to enter the Academy."
The small group of students nodded and some clapped politely. Then, several faces turned towards the felinoid. "What of you, R'vahis? What made You want to join Starfleet?"
The Caitian finished chewing the meat-substitute he was currently eating with a face, then dramatically swallowed and took a sip of water. Then, with sharp-toothy smile, he said, "My mother was afraid I was going to fall in love with a human girl."
A low murmur of awe and appreciation rose up from his peers and he continued with a flourish, "She was the beautiful daughter of one of my father's Engineers, and we met at a departmental picnic. She'd never seen a Catian her age before, and greatly admired my coat of fur. I greatly admired her...attributes." This last was rewarded with several chuckles
"She had the most incredible eyes I'd ever seen on a human. And I suppose I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. It was quite the summer...rather intense, but of course our parents didn't approve."
R'vahis chuckled at the reaction of the students around him, listening to a chorus of "Really?" and "Awww..." before adding, "No. Not really. Actually, doing anything else was never really an option. Both of my parents are prominent members of Starfleet, and there's nothing I'd rather do with my life than serve here."
The Caitian was answered with several groans and a few raspberries for his jest as the students continued around their circle, with a young Vulcan starting up with a tale of his own.
R'vahis sat quietly however, not really listening to the next story, wondering to himself just what would have really happened if his mother hadn't made a point of stomping on his budding relationship with the human girl...
