It is my pleasure to officially announce that several of the crew of the USS Portland have received awards. Awards are an out of character way to congratulate and thank members of Obsidian Fleet for their excellence and their service to the simm.
First up, the Expeditionary Medal has been awarded to everyone who has posted in the first mission.
This award is being awarded to: Commander Alenis Meru, Lt. Cmdr. Timothy Rouse, Lt. Tyrlai Zade, Lt. (JG) Jason Beauvoir, Lt. (JG) Arvel Darze, Lt. (JG) R'vahis, and Lt. (JG) Brad Silverton

Next up, the Meritorious Newcomer of the Month award goes to Lt. (JG) Brad Silverton
*************************************************************************
Finally, the Outstanding Volunteer Award goes to Lt. Cmdr. Timothy Rouse

Anyone can nominate another crewman for an award. To do so, simply send me a PM with the name of the person you are nominating, the award, and your reasoning, and I will consider it. Note that any awards higher up than level 1 require a sample post illustrating the rationale for the award, and have to be approved by someone above me in the fleet.

Award Description:
This award will be given to the newcomer who makes themselves known and puts in the most effort to make their character a valuable addition.

Reason for Nomination:
Brad is a valued addition to the crew. Despite not having any simming experience when he started a few weeks ago, Brad has quickly become one of the most active members of the USS Portland. His posts are consistently of a high quality, and he always strives to move the plot forward in cool and interesting directions. His portrayal of a doctor desperately trying to save his patient and himself from a lethal dose of radiation poisoning was excellent. On top of all that, he recruited another member to the simm in his first week on board. I think I speak for everyone on the USS Portland when I say we are all glad to have him, and enjoy simming with him.
Congratulations, you deserve it!

Finally, the Outstanding Volunteer Award goes to Lt. Cmdr. Timothy Rouse
Award Description:
For the player who makes every effort to find significant ways to lend a hand to the simm's command staff.
Performs excellent support work to the best of his/her abilities. Reserved for out of character contributions only, as such efforts differ in scope and often involve a player's personal time commitment beyond the game play. (Not as prestigious as the Ribbon of Commitment)

Reason for Nomination:
Agnes has been most helpful on the project of creating the website for the USS Portland (http://ussportland.utopia-host.com/) and helped me arrange hosting. She picked out a theme and pretty much taught me how to use html (after teaching herself). I can say without a doubt that we would not have such an attractive website if it weren’t for her hard work. On top of that, she’s always there to bounce ideas off of.
Thank you so much for your contributions to the USS Portland!
